A Masculine Card

Here's a quick masculine card that we made today at the Stamp-A-Stack. I find that with masculine cards, less is more; I try to stay away from too many layers, embellishments and different elements when it comes to cards for guys. I used the Stampin' Up Backgrounds Texturz plates on Kraft cardstock. The Manchester DSP echoes the Harlequin design of the textured cardstock. If you like this DSP, remember the Buy 3, Get 1 Free promotion ends May 31. (That includes all Designer Series Paper and textured 12x12 cardstock, even the Specialty DSP that's printed on textured, cover-weight cardstock!)

The stamped image uses the Cute and Curly set and the matching Curly Label punch, and the sentiment in the label is from Goody Goody Gumdrops, a Level 3 hostess set. A bit of Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon finishes it off. Thanks for looking!

Stamp-A-Stack Preview

Here's a peek at one of the super cute cards we'll be making at my upcoming Spring Stamp-A-Stack on Sunday, May 24. I got the idea from Angie Juda, whose blog I visit often for inspiration. The scoops were made using SU's Scallop Circle punch. Angie used a square punch for the her cone and then trimmed the sides at an angle, but since I don't have a square punch, I used SU's Large Tag punch and trimmed the sides, which worked just as well. If you look closely at the cone (click on the photo to enlarge it), you can see that it has a waffle-like texture! I have been playing with my Texturz Plates and my Big Shot, and was so excited when I discovered that my Big Shot works with some old Fiskars texture plates that I've had for ages. I never used them much because you had to use a tiny little texturing tool and go over and over the design by hand - too labour-intensive! Now, I can just run the cardstock through my Big Shot and in a few seconds it has awesome texture. One of my Fiskars plates has a "Netting" design that makes the perfect waffle cone! More to come on what I've been creating with my SU Texturz Plates; thanks for looking!

Fun with Fifth Avenue Floral

Here are a couple of Mother's Day cards I made using Fifth Avenue Floral. I love the clean lines of the images from this set. I got the inspiration for the first card from the Stampin' Up magazine I receive monthly (just one of the perks of being a demo!). I stamped the white rose with Whisper White craft ink and embossed it with detail white embossing powder. Although I've seen this set used in many beautiful cards with the images overlapping, I wanted to get the look of a "clean" bouquet. To do so, I stamped the rose on scrap cardstock, cut it out, and laid it over the stamped rose I used for the card before I stamped the surrounding blue flowers. That way, any overlapping lines ended up on the scrap piece of cardstock, giving the card its clean look. The sentiment above is from "One of a Kind" and the one below is from "Botanical Blooms." I thought it was a fitting sentiment for mothers, who so often put their families and kids before themselves.

Thanks for looking!
